This year marks the centenary of one of the most well loved marques, the Italian-built Alfa Romeo. The Borders Vintage Automobile Club is delighted to participate in this auspicious occasion by giving our visiting public a taste of the many worldwide gatherings that will take place during the year culminating in a huge celebration in Milan at the end of June. The vehicles that will make up the display on the castle frontage are owned by members of both Alfaowner.com and the Alfa Romeo Owners Club. The owners of these Alfa Romeos (or Alfisti as they are known) share a passion for this marque, whose heritage comes from a true racing lineage, the Cuore Sportivo – the Racing Heart. Alfaowner.com, as the name maybe suggests, is an internet-based club revolving around an extensive international forum with well supported regional sections. This year AO is 10 years old and has over 65,000 members. AROC was formed in 1964 when Alfa Romeos began to become popular in the UK. They now have around 4000 members based mostly in the British Isles. Like AO, regional sections are well supported by an enthusiastic membership. Both of these family orientated clubs organise events throughout the UK (and beyond) ranging from static car shows, such as the one at Thirlestane this year, to all-action track days, more sedate pub meets and national and international tours.
