THE DECISION The Borders Vintage Automobile Club Ltd (BVAC) decided as part of their Historic Motoring Extravaganza 40th celebrations to support the very worthwhile “Help for Heroes” charity which is doing so much for those in our armed services returning from current conflicts wounded or with other difficulties. The 40th anniversary of the first small club gathering held at Mellerstain House in 1972 also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the launch of the MGB way back in 1962 the celebration of which will also form part of our 2012 Historic Motoring Extravaganza. Linking all these things together it was agreed that the club would, as part of the 2012 celebrations, look for an MGB to raffle in of support “Help for Heroes”. Following a nationwide hunt a suitable car, a 1979 MGB GT, was found hidden just over the Border in Carlisle. The appropriate lottery licence has been obtained, the raffle registered with “Help for Heroes”, tickets printed and fundraising is now up and running. THE CAR First registered in 1979, this lovely motor car has been well maintained over the years and is in exceptional order. Everything works as one would expect, the engine pulls well and the gearbox is manual with overdrive on third and fourth gears, which makes for ideal motoring over long distances. The brakes are in tip top condition. |
